About the RAF Sea King
The Westland WS-61 RAF Sea King is a British licence-built version of the American Sikorsky S-61 helicopter of the same name, built by AgustaWestland. I painted this artwork in 2014 – and the painting illustrates an RAF Sea King attending a civil emergency in the winter of 2010-2011 in Northumberland. The aircraft began service with the RAF in 1978, replacing the Westland Whirlwind and operated in a Search and Rescue role with 202 Squadron. Its main HQ was at RAF Valley with detached flights at RAF Boulmer, RAF Lossiemouth and RAF Leconfield. In September 2015, the aircraft began to be phased out of its SAR role. Learn more here.
About the artwork
Following a business meeting with the RAF Benevolent Fund, I was asked to paint an RAF Sea King. Subsequently it was used as a Christmas card in 2014 and 2015. The original painting measures 340 x 520mm and is executed in Gouache.
Printed on 310gsm Hahnemühle textured, acid-free, 100% rag paper in the 10-colour UltraChrome HDR pigment ink Giclée process, the print process is exceptionally faithful to the original art, is museum-grade and will not fade for around 75 years – unlike cheaper litho-prints.

The print is reduced from the original to A3 size – 297mm x 420mm with an image area of 245mm x 350mm (meaning there is a paper border around the colour printed area). Each print is signed and numbered by the artist.
The print is a Limited Edition of 250 copies.
